How Often Should You Do Pilates to See Results?

"How often should I do Pilates?"

It's one of the most common questions we get asked — particularly by people who are just getting started.

The simple answer is: consistency matters more than perfection.

Is Pilates once a week enough?

Yes. If once a week is what realistically fits into your life, that's a great place to start.

A regular weekly Pilates class gives you an opportunity to work on your strength, mobility, posture and movement patterns.

More importantly, you're creating a ro

utine you're actually able to maintain.

One class every week for a year is much more valuable than going three times a week for a month and then stopping altogether.

What about twice a week?

If you have the time, practising Pilates twice a week can be a great option.

More frequent practice gives you additional opportunities to become familiar with the exercises and build on what you've learnt.

Some of our clients also like combining Mat and Reformer Pilates during the week to experience the benefits of both.

When will I notice a difference?

Everyone is different.

Your starting point, activity levels, age, goals and how frequently you practise can all influence how quickly you notice changes.

And remember that "results" don't just mean looking different.

You might notice that:

  • You're less stiff when you get out of bed.

  • Your balance feels better.

  • An exercise that was difficult becomes easier.

  • You're more aware of your posture.

  • Your core feels stronger.

  • You can move through a greater range comfortably.

  • Everyday movements simply feel easier.

Those are all meaningful signs of progress.

Do I need to practise every day?

No.

More isn't automatically better.

Your body needs recovery, and Pilates can form part of a varied approach to movement alongside activities such as walking, swimming, cycling and strength training.

Even incorporating some of the movements you've learnt in class into your week can be beneficial.

Find a routine that works for you

We'd rather see you once a week consistently than have you commit to a schedule you can't realistically maintain.

Start with what fits into your life and build from there.

At Paragon Pilates, our different Mat and Reformer class options make it possible to find a routine that works around you.

If you're unsure how frequently you should practise or which classes would best complement each other, speak to one of our instructors and we'll be happy to help.
